New gadget - Satellite Radio
On Thurdsay I bought myself a new little gadget. It’s a Sirius satellite radio. It’s not available in Canada yet but a friend of mine told me where I could get one. The model that I bought was the Brix Sirius Streamer and it was on special for $179CA. It came with the car kit which included the satellite antenna, windshield mount, cigarette adapter and the cradle with built in FM modulator. So once everything is installed you just have to tune your radio to 88.1 and your listening to satellite radio. You can also get the optional home kit or the boombox and you just slide the radio into the cradle. I will be getting the boombox when the store has it in stock. It will be good for out at the camp. Don’t forget that with satellite radio, you have to pay for your subscription. The cost is $12.95US /month. They give you a month free if you sign up for a year. The catch here is you need a US address to activate the subscription. The store that I bought the radio from tells me that you can use the US mailing address of the manufacturer that makes the radio without any problems. I decided to take an alternate route and use Jenn’s grandparents address in Florida. I signed up for 6 months and with the initial activation and taxes it came up to about $100US. They keep saying that we should be getting Canadian service by christmas so that’s why I only signed up for 6 months. So far reception has been pretty good. I have the antenna sitting on my dash and I only lost reception a few times when I was driving in the campground by some big trees. The best thing about satellite radio is that you never have to change the station because you are out of the area. Oh and it’s commercial free!
