Windows Vista

January 30th, 2007

Windows VistaI guess I almost have to comment about Windows Vista since in the last 2 days I’ve gotten a dozen of e-mails telling me that Windows Vista is here!!

I guess it’s good that it’s finally here but really think about it… Am I going to run out to the store and spend $200 – $400 on Windows Vista (depending on what version you get)??? The catch with Vista is you’re computer needs to be super kick ass or very very new for it to work right.

If your computer is a few years old you might as well forget about it. You’ll more than likely have to upgrade your video card, your ram or even your processor. I did a Windows Vista compatibility test on my Dell laptop today and it didn’t look too good. My laptop is a 1.2GHz Pentium Mobile with 512MB ram, 30GB hard drive and an ATI Mobility Radeon video card. If I were to upgrade to Vista my processor would be fine, I would be advised to upgrade to 1GB ram and either free up some space on my hard drive or replace it since the OS needs 15GB free space. For the video card, it wouldn’t support the “Windows Aero Experience”, I would have to replace it with a better one.

After that’s all said and done, I am better off to buy a new Vista pre-installed laptop than to upgrade this one since it would cost me almost the same price and would be much quicker.

As for software, I already received 3 notices from software companies that we deal with saying that their product is not yet compatible with Vista and shouldn’t be used with it since it will cause unwanted problems.  Fair enough, I will listen to that.
Both hardware and software indicate that I should wait before moving to Vista. You’re probably in the same boat. If you’re running XP, I wouldn’t be running to the local computer store to get Vista just yet. Stick with what you got for a little while longer.
