The macbook is here

Actually it’s been here for a few days now but I haven’t had anytime to blog about it.

So far, things are good. It takes some getting used to, especially the keyboard. OS X is pretty to use. The one feature that I miss the most is the right click. You don’t think you use the right click all that much until it’s gone. Well, actually it’s not gone, you just have to hit CTRL and click and it will right click but it’s a pain in the ass.

I am still trying to figure out what web browser I like better, Safari or Firefox…?

iWeb is pretty cool. I also found a nice little utility that allows you to upload to your own web server instead of dot mac. I do have a trial account for dot mac but I don’t think I will fork out the cash to keep it for the year. It’s nice but expensive at $140 a year (if you don’t purchase it when you buy the macbook).

Installing programs has been pretty easy. Most of the time I’ve just had to copy the program to the application directory. Way easier than a pc.

The keyboard layout is very different than what I have on my IBM laptop. The delete key replaces the backspace on a regular pc and there is no delete. To delete to the right you need to hit fn+delete. I also miss the page up and page down keys. Again, these can be accessed by hitting fn+up arrow or down arrow.

Minimizing and maximizing applications are a little tricky for the typical Windows user.

Expose is nice too. You can show all the items on the desktop, switch between windows in the current application or show all programs that are running in one window.

Tomorrow I will transfer my photos from my PC and give iPhoto a try. That should be fun.
