10 Steps to use your own ringtones on your RAZR V3C
I Googled this many times before, spent tons of time to try and find a way to hack my RAZR so I can use my own sound clips as a ringtone. If you’ve ever used Motorola Phone Tools and uploaded music to your RAZR V3c you probably know that when you try and set that music clip as a ringtone it doesn’t work!
You can only use ringtones that were downloaded from your provided as your ringtone. I guess that’s one of the ways that service providers make their money. In my case, Telus charges anywhere from a dollar to a few dollars for every sound clip that you can download from them. That’s an outrageous price to get custom ringtones. What happens if you download something and don’t like it? You still have to pay for it. At the end of the month I’m sure it adds up.
Here’s what I did to get the music that I uploaded to my phone (with Motorola Phone Tools) as my ringtone.
Step 1 - Get a USB cable to plug your phone to your computer (same as most digital camera’s, you might be able to use the same)
Step 2 - Download a driver for your phone so your computer recognizes it.
Step 3 - Plug the USB cable in your phone and into your computer
Step 4 - Download Bitpim
Step 5 - Install Bitpim
Step 6 - Launch Bitpim, make sure it detects your phone. I had to manually set mine to V710 on COM4. This might take some playing around to get it working.
Step 7 - Expand the + to list the files and directory on the phone
Step 8 - Delete the two files circled in red; TmpTneDB.db and MyToneDB.db
Step 9 - Reboot your phone
Step 10 - You can now use the music that you uploaded to your phone from your computer as a ringtone.
Enjoy your ringtones!
Note: I will not be held responsible if you screw up your phone in any way. Theses are the instructions that worked for me and might not be the same for you. Use at own risk!
I am also on Telus and have the motorola phone tools for my razr v3c and could not play the ring tones I transfered to my phone with it. So I tried your 10 steps. Downloaded the BitPim, but it will not detect my phone even after trying numerous different manual settings. Tried to download your driver, but no luck downloading it. Any suggestions as I am stuck?
You will need to use a different driver. Does your computer recognize the phone when you plug it in? Does your phone say charging when it’s plugged in via USB? If not, then it’s not the right driver.
thanks, but I have first another question. How to transfer files on the v3c ?
