Bye Moto Q Hello RAZR

September 19th, 2007

Today I sold my Moto Q and reactivated my old RAZR.

Man I missed the RAZR.  So sleek and tiny, easy dialing, no need to lock the keypad when it’s in your pocket, long battery life and NO EMAIL!  I do have to admit that e-mail access is handy but sometimes it’s nice to relax.

One of the biggest problems with smartphones like the Moto Q is that they use up so much bandwidth and that = $$$.  It’s a good thing Telus gave me 3 months of unlimited data for $25/month because had I been  on the 4MB package I would of had to pay lots of money at the end of the month since I’ve been averaging about 15MB per month.

Where Telus gets you is with their data packages.  If you want 4MB it’s $25 per month and about $12 per additional MB.  The next package is 8MB for $40 per month and something like $10 per additional MB.  My problem is I use approximately 15MB per month so I would need the $60 package which includes 30MB total.  Don’t forget, you have to add your voice package to this bill too and all the other features like voicemail, caller ID, text messages, etc which in my case is about $35-$40.

At the end of the month that makes for a pretty big bill that I am not willing to pay for especially when 90% of my usage is work related.

If ever I go back to a smartphone (and I probably will) I will make sure to get one with wifi built in since most of the time I am at the office or at home which both have wireless internet and I wouldn’t need to use the $$ Telus data package.  Something to think about if you are thinking of getting a smartphone.
