Family Day

October 11th, 2007

Looks like we are getting another public holiday. The liberal government announced today that starting this February Ontario will have it’s 9th holiday of the year. The third Monday of February will now be known as Family Day in Ontario.

What does that mean for us? Well obviously it means we get an extra statuary holiday per year. It also means the Liberals probably got a majority government because of the extra votes gained because of family day.

At the end of the day who pays for family day? Perhaps not you and I. Business owners are the ones stuck paying their staff for this holiday not the government. Will the government cut these business owners some slack? Probably not. This means that already struggling small business owners are going to suffer more.

I am glad I’m not in business. The liberals think that productivity levels will increase because of this holiday in February. If you’re like me you probably take advantage of long weekends to go out of town, do a bit of traveling or spend it with friends. When you return to work on the Tuesday after your probably pretty tired and not as productive. I’m not expert but that’s just my opinion.

That being said, thanks for the long weekend in February. I will most likely spend it snowmobiling.

Toronto Surprise

October 10th, 2007

So on Friday morning Jenn was thinking that we were going to Sudbury but really we were heading south to Toronto. I told her there was a bypass to go to Sudbury. It was pretty funny because she had no idea what was coming. About half an hour out of North Bay is when I told her. She was pretty surprised. We only got to Toronto mid afternoon and did some shopping at the Cookstown Outlet mall (where I spent a bit of money). I got the most comfy Campus Crew jogging pants. I also bought two hoodies and a pair of jeans.

Getting downtown was quite the task since it was rush hour. It also didn’t help that I forgot to take the 427 off of the 401 West. I think we ended up at a gas station in Oakville. I got directions from the clerk which convinced me not to buy a map since it was pretty easy to find. He was right, it wasn’t too hard to find after that.

We checked into our hotel probably around 6 pm and decided to go check out the Eaton Centre. We also met up with my cousins Jenna and Caryn at the mall. Jenn spent $350 on a coach purse and I couldn’t help but buy a GPS (Garmin Nuvi 250) so that I wouldn’t get lost anymore. I am pretty happy I got the GPS because it saved me lots of hassles on the weekend. It’s nice and small so I was able to bring it with me even when we walked places. We also got to visit the Apple store. It was hard to resist buying the new iPod Touch mind you they only had the 16GB model which I think it way overpriced. Nonetheless it’s still a very cool toy.

After the mall we went walking downtown and I convinced my cousin Caryn to go up the CN Tower. She is scared of heights so it was interesting. Here are some of the pictures I took on Friday.
