Up And Go

October 10th, 2007

Monday was a travel day. It wasn’t the usual travel day though. At like 7 am I heard someone banging on a door in the hallway but didn’t think anything of it. I tried to fall back asleep but about 15 minutes later I heard it again but it was louder. I went to check out the peep hole but couldn’t see too much since it was dirty. What I could make out however was someone lying on the floor right in the middle of the hall in front of my door. It was pretty weird. The girl looked like she was lying there naked. I could hear her talking to herself. A lady across the hall opened up her door and started talking to her since she had been knocking on her door. The lady seemed confused as to why this girl was naked in the middle of the hall. She said to her “do you realize you’re naked?”. I think the girl was high on something or perhaps took too much of her pills. The lady was nice enough to give her a towel. Shortly after the hotel manager came up to try and sort things out. This girl didn’t even know her last name when the guy was asking her what it was. He kept asking her what room she was staying in and couldn’t get a response from her. Finally he brought her downstairs to call someone to come pick her up after they gave her a robe of course.

After that was all over I checked to see if I still had some time left in my 24 hour internet access that I paid $10 for. Sure enough I managed to get one post out. I tried to post a second but it failed and didn’t save. My time had run out.

I paid the $42 of parking at the hotel and left shortly after 9 am. The GPS guided us west on Dundas to get out of town. I think it may have been faster if we took the Gardiner Expressway or something like that but we managed to get onto the 400. We stopped at Webbers to get some char grilled burgers before they close for the season. It was pretty good.

Weekend in Ontario’s Capital

October 10th, 2007

Saturday we woke up and got ready to go to the Mandarin for lunch. I never felt so bad after eating at a buffet in my entire life. I also found out that we should have taken the subway there instead of taking my car out of the hotel parking which cost $18.

After lunch we rushed back to the hotel and walked over to the Canon Theatre to go see We Will Rock You. If ever you have the chance to go see that do it but don’t go eat at the Mandarin right before. I felt like I was going to die for the first half of the show. I think it may have been heart burn. The show was wicked.

For supper I made reservations at the CN Tower. It was very nice but I found it a bit loud. We took some pictures and video of our meals. It was good delicious. It better be for > $200. After the 2 and a half hours we spent at the CN Tower and a full day our bed at the Hilton was very much appreciated.

On Sunday we walked up Younge St. and checked out a bunch of the local shops. We made our way to the Royal Ontario Museum and spent a bit of time there. We were disappointed because the dinosaur and Africa exhibits don’t open until later this year and early 2008. I still managed to take a bunch of pictures.

For supper we ate at the Old Spaghetti Factory. We walked there from our hotel but kinda got lost. I knew I should of brought the GPS but ended up leaving it. We got to see the waterfront during our lost journey. The food was good at the spaghetti factory and the service was quick. It took less than an hour and we got to make our 8 pm show at yuk yuk’s.

Allyson Smith was the feature at Yuk Yuk’s. She was pretty funny without having to be super perverted and vulgar. Yuk Yuk’s was just down the street from our hotel. After the show there was a huge lineup outside for one of the neighboring clubs. There were two guys that were way too smammered, they couldn’t even stand.

We finished the night with some drinks and food at Jack Astors on the patio. They had a bunch of patio heaters all over the place and it was way too hot for me. I had to take off my hoodie. It was perfect weather outside too. Not too hot and not too cold. The patio was full of people that had just checked out the Van Halen concert at the Air Canada centre.

Here are some of the pictures.

Toronto Surprise

October 10th, 2007

So on Friday morning Jenn was thinking that we were going to Sudbury but really we were heading south to Toronto. I told her there was a bypass to go to Sudbury. It was pretty funny because she had no idea what was coming. About half an hour out of North Bay is when I told her. She was pretty surprised. We only got to Toronto mid afternoon and did some shopping at the Cookstown Outlet mall (where I spent a bit of money). I got the most comfy Campus Crew jogging pants. I also bought two hoodies and a pair of jeans.

Getting downtown was quite the task since it was rush hour. It also didn’t help that I forgot to take the 427 off of the 401 West. I think we ended up at a gas station in Oakville. I got directions from the clerk which convinced me not to buy a map since it was pretty easy to find. He was right, it wasn’t too hard to find after that.

We checked into our hotel probably around 6 pm and decided to go check out the Eaton Centre. We also met up with my cousins Jenna and Caryn at the mall. Jenn spent $350 on a coach purse and I couldn’t help but buy a GPS (Garmin Nuvi 250) so that I wouldn’t get lost anymore. I am pretty happy I got the GPS because it saved me lots of hassles on the weekend. It’s nice and small so I was able to bring it with me even when we walked places. We also got to visit the Apple store. It was hard to resist buying the new iPod Touch mind you they only had the 16GB model which I think it way overpriced. Nonetheless it’s still a very cool toy.

After the mall we went walking downtown and I convinced my cousin Caryn to go up the CN Tower. She is scared of heights so it was interesting. Here are some of the pictures I took on Friday.

Matthew Good in North Bay

October 8th, 2007

Jenn and I went to see Matt Good in North Bay, ON on Thursday. The show, as usual, was awesome! The acoustics at “The Wall” are great and the place is small which makes for an intimate setting. We were one of the first 20 people in line. We left town just after 1 pm and got to the show at around 5:30 pm. Of course as we got closer to the 8 pm mark the line got crowded and some of the people passed us. We still managed to get good seats nice and close. I took almost 300 pictures and uploaded them to Flickr. Of course I didn’t sort through them so you’ll have to skip the not so good ones.

The opening band Dala was also very good. I was pretty impressed and so was Jenn. She bought their CD and got it signed. They did a very good acapella at the end of their gig.

Matt Good hit the stage with Champions of Nothing which was awesome. I thought he would have started with “Girl Wedged Under the Front of a Firebird”. He also played some of his older stuff like Suburbia and Fated. As usual he did the guitar part of Weapon and then stopped to tell us that Weapon can’t be played on acoustic after that part. One song he didn’t play that I was hoping to hear was Metal Airplanes. That being said, hopefully I will hear it when he plays in Cobalt on November 3rd. He just announced that he will be playing in Cobalt on the 3rd so I got tickets right away since it’s only about 2.5 hours from home. Nonetheless the concert was awesome!

I couldn’t decide on what t-shirt to buy so I got both this year. I think my favorite one so far is the one that says “Nothing to Hide” on it. Jenn got the one that says “She’s in it for the money”. I managed to spend $110 on 3 t-shirts, pins, a signed poster and a Dala CD. After the concert I managed to get my LoFi B-Sides CD signed. Jenn got my online manifesto’s book signed. Oh and this year Jenn managed to get my entire body in the picture!

Here are some of the pictures that I took in North Bay. You can check out my flickr page from the links on the right to see all of them.
