Spending Wisely

February 23rd, 2006

Alberta is spending their money wisely.  The Alberta will be spending $1 billion dollars on Cancer research as a plan to cut cancer deaths in half in 20 years.  The question that I am asking myself, why doesn’t the Canadian government do something like this instead of spending money on some of the ridiculous things they are spending millions on?  Even better, why aren’t the United States doing something like this? $1 billion is fractional compared to what they are spending with the war on terrorism.

Canadian Elections

January 5th, 2006

Here is my first attempt at commenting about Candian politics…

Note: Please keep in mind that my knowledge about politics is as advanced as the snowman making skills of the average Mexican.

I was on a few sites very briefly this morning to read a little about the January 23rd Canadian election. Going into it, I want to be able to make a semi-informed decision. I don’t want to vote for someone because everybody is doing it or because they have nice signs. I want to vote for someone who will do something good for our country. I want someone who has plans to do something about things that matter like, better health care, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, getting people off the streets, etc. We need a leader that is concerned about Canadians. I don’t want to vote for someone that tries to win your vote by saying crap like they will eliminate GST. Broken promises are things that people always seem to forget about. Promises are usually broken shortly after they get elected but when it comes time to re-elections people tend to forget about them! Something else that people tend to forget is when the government screws over it’s own people. Do we really want to re-elect a government that will steal money from us? Take the sponsorship scandal as an example. Politicians have all the fancy toys, the gas guzzling SUV’s, all-inclusive vacations and who pays for all of that? the tax payers. I’m not convinced that any of the parties will seek the best for us Canadians. I think that most politicians think about themselves before us, look at the Liberals.
