Fix BlackBerry “Invalid Phone Number” error when pressing speed dial 1 key

March 18th, 2008

After receiving my replacement Blackberry I noticed that my #1 speed dial key for voice mail no longer worked.  Instead what I got was “Invalid Phone Number”.

Telus (my carrier) couldn’t help me so I Googled it.

To fix this issue.

  • Go to Phone mode
  • View Speed Dial List
  • Assign a new temporary number to speed dial #1 or letter W (if using a QWERTY keyboard)
  • Save the changes
  • Go back to the Speed Dial List
  • Remove the number assigned to 1/W
  • Save the changes
  • Remove the battery from the phone
  • Put the battey back it

When your phone boots up again it will re-create the original speed dial to your Voice Mail.

Replacement Blackberry

March 12th, 2008

Not even a month after having received my Blackberry 8830 World Edition I needed a replacement.

Some of the problems that I encountered with my unit were…

  1. The number 5 got unresponsive (unless applying lots of pressure)
  2. I would get CALL FAILED, TRY AGAIN!
  3. When flipping back to a call that was on hold (with call waiting) it would conference both calls together.
  4. The other thing that I found was the screen was extremely easy to scratch.

My new unit is Made in Canada instead of Mexico.  Not sure if that will make a difference or not.  I am trying really hard not to scratch the screen until I get a screen protector.  I also have a Blackberry Skin and Leather sleeve on order.

Before returning my old unit I opened up the Blackberry Desktop Manager software and started the process to swap the blackberry device to transfer all my applications and settings.  Once all the info was copied to my computer I went to the store, wiped all my data and applications and brought home my new blackberry.  Once at home I plugged the device via USB and clicked next in the device swap process.  It took some time to finish up but it worked perfect.

The only problem that I had afterwards was my Blackberry Browser was gone.  To fix that all I did was go to OPTIONS –> ADVANCED OPTIONS –> HOST ROUTING TABLE –> scroll down to the one that is in bold and click on REGISTER NOW.  Once that was done I had my Blackberry Browser back.

I hear that Telus will be getting the Blackberry Curve in the next couple of months….I almost should of waited.
