Blackberry Rate Plan Troubles

February 20th, 2008

Last week after fighting with my newly installed Blackberry Server (Blackberry Professional Software) I discovered that it wasn’t a problem with the server config. It was a problem with my Telus rate plan. Apparently my rate plan ($15 unlimited data, yeah I know it’s good) can not interface with a Blackberry Server. I was pretty disappointed with Telus for putting this type of block and not telling me about it when I signed up. Now I have my e-mails downloaded from Outlook Web Access automatically with the Blackberry Internet Service. I am told by Telus that I would need to switch to a 4MB $25, 8MB $40, 30MB $60 or 1024MB $100 plan if I want to connect my blackberry to my server. With the type of data that I use I would most likely need the $100 plan. That’s a difference of $85 per month to sync contacts, calendar appointments, tasks and notes wirelessly. I think I will connect my blackberry to my computer to sync for now until I find a way around it, which I will soon.

The other thing that I found was that the screen scratches pretty easily especially if you don’t use the belt clip. I find the belt clip too geeky and bulky so I stick the phone in my pocket. Sometimes there happens to be keys in there but I’ve never had problems with scratches on previous phones.

Also, if you haven’t already done so you should download all of the Google apps for the blackberry. The apps include Gmail, Maps, Docs, Reader, Picasa, Search, Sync, and News.

If you are looking for a way to access MSN Messenger you might want to try BerryVine Messenger.

Shoot ‘Em Up

January 20th, 2008

Shoot ‘Em Up - Movie (2007)If you haven’t already wasted an hour and a half of your life watching the movie “Shoot ‘Em Up” then don’t watch it. Especially don’t waste $5 at the video store to rent it. At least wait until it comes out on the movie channel if you are feeling adventurous. I’ve never seen a movie with so much shooting in it. Like I mean there was too much shooting. The worst part is that the shooting made it look so much faker than it already was. The only thing I can think of is there is an award of some sort for the movie that comes out with the most shooting of guns in one movie and the producers of Shoot ‘Em Up really wanted to win it this year. At one point the “shooter”, also a carrot fanatic, goes into the gun factory to kill some bad guys but rigs the whole place up in a matter of seconds so that when the army of security guards come to shoot him down he can remotely shoot all of them with strings that he ran all over the place. Oh also, at the very ending he kills the governor of some state while on a plane because he was running a baby factory to get bone marrow to treat himself of some disease. After killing the governor he jumps out of the plane with a parachute only to be followed by yet another army of people shooting at him. It was the fakest thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life. I think movie producers are running out of things to make movies about.

January 15th, 2008

That’s right the Macbook Air was released today at Macworld in San Francisco. This thing is awesome! Weighing in at a low 3lbs it’s also the lightest laptop that I know of. The thickest part of this laptop is only 0.76 inches thick. Instead of me re-listing all the features just click here to read all about it and see ton’s of pictures.

Happy Birthday Mom

January 9th, 2008

Today is my moms birthday. My mom is simply amazing. I know everyone always says that their mom is the best but I really do mean it. Being a single mom and raising 3 boys must have been hard. She did it and it seemed effortless. I still remember when I was young, mom would get back from work and make us nice suppers. I mean even better suppers than what I make now. I always wondered where she found time to sleep. When I was in grade 7 or 8 I remember waking up and she had already done all the laundry, the groceries and made us breakfast. She’s always been there for us through laughs and cries. She raised us to be responsible adults and without her I don’t think I would be where I am now.

Thanks mom and have a wonderful day.

Ibanez

I will be learning how to play guitar in the new year because I got a nice Ibanez Acoustic guitar for Christmas from Jenn and her parents. I can’t wait to start playing. I hope I am able to pick it up fairly quick.

Missed A Moose But The Taxi Hit It

December 27th, 2007

I went to pickup my mom at the airport tonight. She just got back from visiting my brothers in Whistler. On the way there I was driving cautiously because the roads were bad. When I got close to the airport I spotted a big moose on the side of the road with what seemed to be a smaller moose. I had a chance to slow down and avoid hitting it. At this time of the year they come out to lick the salt from the roads. On my way back from the airport I saw a bunch of flashing lights from the distance. I knew someone had hit that moose because it was at the very same spot. Sure enough as we got closer we saw a damaged taxi cab and a dead moose. The taxi hit the moose on the driver side and the moose flew over the top of the taxi. Luckily the taxi only hit the smaller moose. The driver of the cab was standing and seemed fine as the paramedics were taking care of him. It doesn’t surprise me that the taxi hit the moose. It seems like taxi drivers are always in a rush to pickup their fares. The road to the airport is a bad one and out of all people taxi drivers should know that. Winter driving is bad to start off with but you have to watch those moose at night when they salt the roads in Northern Ontario.

Merry (late) Christmas

December 26th, 2007

Hope everyone had a good Christmas. For those who are of different faith happy holidays. I am stuffed. We’ve been bouncing around from house to house for suppers and parties. It’s been a busy couple of days. It was lots of fun though. Tomorrow we doing lunch with my mom and then we are done until new years. I get to relax for the next few days. I think I will take out my cross country skies on Thursday and my snowboard on Friday before my friends get here on the weekend. This weekend I am also playing in a drinking competition hockey tournament. It should be a fun time.

I hope everyone did good on boxing day sales. I only bought a pair of shoes since I only visited one store. The rest of my boxing day shopping was done on Bestbuy.ca and comprised of iPod accessories for Jenn and I. No more spending until February.

SHHhhhhh!!

December 18th, 2007

We went to see Alvin & The Chipmunks tonight and Jenn started laughing super loud at one sarcastic part and got shushed by a 6 year old. It was the funniest thing ever. The movie was pretty funny too.

I am on holidays until next year now. Last Friday was my last day if you don’t count today because I went it for a few hours to take care of some problems. Yesterday I got all my Christmas shopping done which is super cool! I am still waiting for my mom’s gift to come in. Hopefully it gets here soon. I just have to wrap everything up.

I took out my snowblower today to clean up some of the snow around the yard. I had a hard time getting it to idle past half throttle. Every time I cranked it past half it would stall. After about 10 minutes of messing around with it I noticed the choke was on. Once I turned off the choke it was good. I cleaned off my back deck. I can BBQ again!

Tomorrow morning I am dropping off my car at Honda to get an idler pulley changed. It’s making a bunch of noise and is driving me nuts. I checked out the new Civics yesterday and am super tempted to get one. The lease rates are pretty good right now. I can get a new 4 door Civic LX automatic on a 4 year lease at 1.5% interest for $323 a month.

I think I will wait it out a bit more and put some money on my line of credit to get it down a bit before being tied up in a lease.
