Today was a pretty big day for Apple. If you haven’t heard they released the new iPhone 3G S which is basically just a faster iPhone with more features. It has longer battery life the ability to record video and a snazzy new compass. Oh yeah and it also comes in 8gb, 16gb and 32gb format.
They also refreshed their MacBooks. The new MacBook Pro’s include an SD card slot. They have faster processors and lower price tags. They all have non-removable batteries now but Apple says it will last 5 years before needing to be replaced. The feature that I like the best is that the lower priced MacBook Pro 13″ now comes with a backlit keyboard a feature that what was only available in the higher priced model before.
Apple announced the release of Snow Leopard. It will be available later this year and will cost $29 as an upgrade from Leopard.
iPhone users heard they news they were waiting for. The iPhone OS version 3 will be released in less than 2 weeks. The best part is current iPhone owners will get the update for free. iPod Touch owners will have to pay $9.95 to upgrade.
Fore more information about all the new updates you can check out the Apple site.

It’s official, Tuesday October 14th, Apple will release new laptops. I’m pretty anxious to see what they have up their sleeve. Of course, many pictures have already been leaked onto the net. If the pictures are accurate the new Macbooks should make for nice little laptops. Another rumour that I heard was that Apple might have laptops starting at $800. That would be super cool! It would mean that Apples market share would grow immensely.
Here is what I would like to see in the new Macbook
- All aluminium case (99% sure this will happen)
- Illuminated keyboard
- Better speaker sound
- Multi-touch keypad
- One more USB port
- LightScribe DVD burner (not likely to happen)
- More affordable solid-state hard drives
I guess I will have to wait until Tuesday afternoon to see what the future brings for the Macbooks.

I got the chance to play around with the new iPod Touch today. The 2nd generation of the iPod Touch is pretty sweet because it has a built in speaker. It actually sounds pretty good for being totally enclosed in the iPod. I helped my brother sync his music and download some apps from the App Store since it’s his first iPod. I’m not a huge iPod listener person but I actually have an itch to get the new Touch. I currently use the previous version of the iPod Nano when I go for runs. It’s handy with the Nike+ iPod adpater since I can track my runs online. The new iPod Touch has the Nike+ iPod receiver built in by the looks of things. So technically all you need is the transceiver that goes in your shoe and you’re all set to run. I’m not sure if I would feel safe running with the Touch though. I think I would be too scared that it would get damaged. It’s amazing the amount of technology you can fit in such a small device.

Rogers announced this morning that it will offer a 6GB data package that you can add on to any of their existing voice plans for $30 per month. I think this is Rogers way of accomodating power users as they do not have any unlimited data plans. Myself, I am with Telus and was fortunate enough to get unlimited data for $15 per month. The only downside is I cannot connect to my Blackberry server at the office because that rate plan is only for personal e-mails. However I can still receive my e-mails wirelessly with the blackberry internet service and my calendar with google sync.
Effective July 11, and as a limited time promotional offer for customers
who activate by August 31 on a three year contract, a data-only offering of
6GB of data for $30 per month is being made available that can be added to any
in-market voice plan. For example, with 6GB of data, iPhone 3G users can visit
35,952 web pages, or send and receive 157,286 emails, or watch 6,292 minutes
of YouTube videos each and every month.(xx)

A couple nights ago I installed the wptouch plugin from Dale and Duane at BraveNewCode. When using your standard web browser on your computer you will see my regular minimalia theme but if you open up this website on the iPod Touch or iPhone it will automatically be switched over to an iPod friendly theme. If you have either one give it a try. It’s friendly to use and easy to navigate. Good job Dale and Duane.
