Obama Keeps His Blackberry

January 23rd, 2009

Obama will be the first President to use e-mail. I wonder what his email address is?  Maybe something like prez44@whitehouse.gov or c-ya-mccain@whitehouse.gov…..

The White House press secretary Robert Gibbs announced yesterday that Obama will be allowed to keep his Blackberry.  They reached an agreement that allows Obama to use the security-enabled Blackberry for email. I wonder what they are using to encrypt the Blackberry at both ends.  Email is never really 100% secure unless it’s being delivered through internal servers within the government.  From what I understand he will be able to email friends and family also.  I doubt they will have government issued email addresses that are stored on secure servers but then again I doubt that Obama will be emailing any top secret information.

Those who will have access to Obama’s email address will be briefed before hand. It was also mentioned that his Blackberry will allow him to keep in touch with people and avoid getting “stuck in a bubble”.

During the press conference the press secretary would not comment on how many people will have his e-mail address but did say “It’s a pretty small group of people”.

One of the journalists said during the conference that hackers in Russia and China are already at work to try and hack into Obama’s Blackberry.  The press secretary replied “That’s why I didn’t give the email address”.

The whole Obama Blackberry thing has really helped out Research In Motion, a Canadian company from Waterloo.  Ask you can see from the the chart below, their stocks have jumped a fair bit.

One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

November 5th, 2008

It seems like the US have taken one step forward by electing the first black President ever.  It only took 232 years for that to happen.  Where they took two steps back is with Proposition 8.  Three states, California, Florida and Arizona, voted yes for Proposition 8 which bans gay marriages.  What I really don’t understand is the fact that voters in California elected Barack Obama which supports gay marriages.  I wonder how long it will take for them to realize that two people of the same sex should be able to get married?  Until then, it just means that Canada will have more American tourists…..especially now that the Canadian dollar is low.
